On Sunday 28th September 1930, the Brno circuit, then 29,1 km long, first experienced the thrilling atmosphere of motor racing. The pre-war period was dominated by German competitors with newly designed Auto Union and Mercedes Benz cars. After the war the track saw changes - it was shortened to 17,8 km and the competitors began in the opposite direction; a crowd of 400,000 gathered for its first thrilling race.

A brand new chapter in the history of the Brno circuit was written in 1987 when building began of the new automotodrom in Kývalka, just 10 km from the old pits. Today, the Czech Republic Grand Prix held at Brno, has became a sports event of highest importance and is watched, thanks to the TV transmission, all over the world.
