Formula Renault 2.0
On Sunday morning the track was partially dry when the Group B drivers came out for the second qualifying session of the weekend for the FR. 2.0 Eurocup.
Not until the closing minutes of the session did the times start to come down when Paul-Loup Chatin and Daniil Kvyat upped the pace.
Kvyat topped the time sheets with a lap in 2m 11.734s which he improved to 2m 10.477s on his final flyer. Into second and third came Chatin and Nyck de Vries.
In Group A, Stoffel Vandoorne stuck to his usual strategy and went to the front immediately. He was the first to beat Kvyat’s time and drove home the point by improving lap after lap. He set his sixth pole of the season in 2m 09.237s just before the session was red-flagged after Oscar Tunjo’s spin. Thus the Belgian was quickest in Group 1 followed by Esteban Ocon and Stefan Wackerbauer.
Stoffel Vandoorne: “When I learned that Daniil was quickest in his group I knew I had to set pole. The track was still damp in places so I had to be careful. This afternoon’s heat is going to be hotly disputed as I saw yesterday that Danill has a good race car.”
