Formula Renault 3.5

When the second qualifying session for the F.R 3.5s began the drivers went out on used tyres and they were on the pace straight away.

As they came in to put on fresh rubber Arthur Pic (DAMS) topped the time sheets with a lap in 1m 39.937s. In second and third were Marco Sorensen (Lotus) and Kevin Korjus (Tech 1 Racing).

On new tyres Daniil Move (P1 Motorsport) was the first to improve Pic’s time. But the Frenchman wasn’t having any and went quicker. He improved every lap and finally clichéd his second pole of the weekend with a time of 1m 39.194s. Marco Sorensen will be alongside the DAMS driver on the front row. Into third came Robin Frijns (Fortec Motorsports) who snatched third in the dying seconds from Sam Bird (ISR).

Drivers’ quotes

Arthur Pic: “We’re really quick over a lap here. I improved each time round and the final lap was perfect. Now, I have to make a good start as I got caught out in the first race.”

Marco Sorensen: “We know that we’re in our rightful place in the top five, but we’ve lacked speed since we arrived here. We found the problem as proved by my second place in qualifying. Now, like everybody else I’m only thinking about the start. It’s the one thing we’re not really used to with the new car. The pit stop will also be a key moment in the second race.”

Robin Frijns: “I only had one flying lap as I was baulked all the time. In these circumstances I’m pleased with this result. Yesterday, starting in twelfth place I fought my way up to fourth with the fastest lap in the race. So as I’m third on the grid I’ve got high hopes.”
