Formula Renault 2.0

After securing his first podium finish in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 at the Nürburgring last season, Norman Nato is aiming for a win this year. Here, the Frenchman reveals how to tackle the Formula One track.

1. The track’s a pretty complex mix of slow and fast corners, and it’s laid out for drivers that like to attack. The first sector is very tight indeed and you have to really push the gearbox to the limit. You can tell in the first three corners if you’ve got good speed or not.

2. The second sector is quicker, and the most important thing is to take care when exiting corners because there are a lot of undulations. You have to keep your speed up and that’s going to depend a lot on how committed you are with your set-up. You need to have a car that’s responsive on slow corners and quick on the straight, and that can be a real headache.

3. The third section, between turns 11 and 14, is also very fast, although speed through the turns is what counts here. You have to push very hard and really go for it if you want a good time. The car tends to move around a lot but you can’t let that affect you. It’s not that hard a sector but it’s very easy to make a lot of little errors and lose lots of time.

4. The last chicane and the turn that follows it are very important because they determine how you go into the pit straight and turn one, which is where you’ve got the best chance of overtaking and of being overtaken. Everything hinges on that final turn really.
