Eurocup Mégane Trophy

Grégory Guilvert (Team Lompech Sport) who was quick in the collective test made a strong start to the qualifying session, and took provisional pole from Stefano Comini (Oregon Team). The Swiss hit back immediately and went to the top of the time sheets in 2m 13.429s.

Bas Schothorst went faster in 2m 12.408s and it looked like he was going to snatch pole from Comini for the first time this season. Comini’s last attempt ended in a spin! Thus, Schothorst set his first pole this year from Comini, David Dermont (TDS Racing) and Guilvert.

The second session started in much the same way. Schothorst was fastest straight away from Niccolo Nalio (Oregon Racing) and Guilvert, while Comini did not come out immediately after his off in the first session.

Schothorst laid down a marker with a lap in 2m 12.669s. Comini waited till the end of the session to try for pole. But he couldn’t improve on second best. Michele Faccin (Boutsen Energy Racing) completed the top three.

Quotes :

Bas Schothorst: “At last! Yesterday in the collective test I knew we had a good car. I’m happy and I did several quick laps. I’ve beaten Stefano Comini in a fair fight, it’s encouraging. We’ve been on the same pace in the races since the start of the season. I have to win today.”

Stefano Comini: “The others have woken up! I’m almost happy not to have scored pole. In the first session I stayed out for a long time pushing just a little. I punctured and that’s why I spun. My car had to have slight repairs so I didn’t have much track time in the second one. I’m not on pole but that won’t stop me going for victory.”
