Eurocup Mégane Trophy

The qualifying session for the Eurocup Mégane Trophy started with a spectacular collision between Niccolo Nalio and Stefano Comini. This put an end to the two drivers’ session, and they didn’t even cover a quick lap!

Albert Costa and Bas Schothorst fought for pole for race 1 with the Spaniard coming out on top with a lap in 1m 48.672s. At the very end of the session Fabien Thuner managed to split Costa and Schothorst.

Costa was quickest again in second qualifying by adopting the same strategy and setting his time in the middle of the session. It was his seventh pole of the season – and his sixth on the trot! Behind came his team-mates Kevin Gilardoni and Fabien Thuner, while Schothorst could not do better than fourth on the grid for the second race.

Albert Costa: “I wanted to change two or three things on my car’s setup between the two qualifying sessions, as I found it was oversteering too much. I don’t think we went in the right direction. I’m happy with my two poles and I’m pleased to see that my team-mates are on the pace.”

Bas Schothorst: “Yesterday we weren’t very happy about the way my car handled under braking. Today, it’s better and its handling improved between the two sessions. I’ve got some overtaking to do in the races but it’s possible on this circuit in the Mégane.”
