Promising signs in Valencia

The sun always shines brightly over Valencia and this weekend was no different as round 3 of the GP3 series got underway in Spain.

Luciano and his team expected a difficult weekend as he continues to get to grips with his new car but also on top of this he had to learn a new track, the Valencia street circuit. These difficulties were reflected in a disappointing qualifying session where he only managed to secure 20th place on the grid for race 1.

Luchi looked to improve his performance in Race 1 and things looked promising as he got off to an impressive start; however the race very quickly took a dramatic twist at turn one where a crash caused an ensuing traffic jam and a brief safety car period to which Luciano was caught up in, severely hindering his prospects in the race. Despite his efforts the lead cars had capitalised upon the early chaos meaning that he was unable to make any significant progress up the rankings and eventually finished in 18th place.

A good start made by Luchi in Race 2 was once again disrupted, as he had to avoid a stalled car. However this did not deter a determined Luciano who put in an impressive and energetic performance, overtaking a number of cars throughout the race including one of his teammates. This saw him climb up to 10th place in the standings, coming in touching distance of the lead cars.

A happy Luciano said after the race that:

“I am very comfortable in the car now and this is a big positive for me, especially without the pre-season testing”.

Luciano’s strong performance in the 2nd race and growing confidence in his car means that that there are a number of positives to take forward into the latter rounds of the season. The RSC Mücke Motorsport driver will be particularly looking to build upon his performance at the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone in round 4.
