Formula Renault 3.5

P1 Motorsport is pleased to announce that British racer Will Stevens will join the Norfolk-based team for the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 season.

The 21 year-old from Surrey, a member of the BRDC Superstars Programme, will compete in his second year in the World Series by Renault category having taken 12th place overall in the drivers' Championship in 2012, notching up nine top 10 finishes including a podium at the Hungaroring in his rookie year.

Stevens, a race winner and regular visitor to the podium in Formula Renault Eurocup 2.0, graduated to the FR 3.5 category with Carlin Motorsport for his rookie year. Driving for P1 at the post-season test in Barcelona, Will produced an impressive performance, posting the fastest time in both sessions, a clear 0.5 seconds quicker than their nearest challenger and was again challenging for the top of the times at the official test at Motorland.

Speaking about the announcement, Stevens said: "I am very happy to be joining P1 Motorsport for the 2013 season. I've tested with them on a number of occasions and have always been at or near the top of the time sheets so I take a lot of confidence from that. The car suits me, I feel really at home in the team and we are aligned in our objectives for next season. 2012 was a good learning year for me and I'm ready to challenge for the championship in 2013."

P1's Chief Engineer, Mike Henderson, said: "Will's performance with the team during the post-season test at Barcelona was incredibly positive and we are very much looking forward to working with him over the winter in preparation for next year. The experience he has already gained in the FR 3.5 category will put him in good stead for the coming season, in which we fully expect him to be a championship contender."

P1 Motorsport are approaching the final stage of negotiations with a driver to be Stevens' team mate for the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 season, and an announcement is expected shortly.
