Eurocup Mégane Trophy

The track was wet for the qualifying session for the Eurocup Mégane Trophy. Albert Costa was much quicker than his rivals early on and seemed on track for his seventh pole position of the season. But Bas Schothorst had other ideas put in a lap in 2m 31.027s to pip the Spaniard setting his second pole in 2012 from Costa, Fabien Thuner, Niccolo Nalio and Kelvin Snoeks.

In the second session the Oregon Team decided to send out Nalio on slicks while all the other drivers opted for grooved rubber. Unlike in the first part Schothorst led initially until he was beaten by Costa with a lap in 2m 30.757s. This gave the Spaniard pole from Schothorst, Snoeks and the big surprise was Toni Forné’s fourth place.

Bas Schothorst: “It was an interesting session as the track kept evolving. I had a good first part and then I got caught up in traffic in the second. The weather’s the big unknown factor this weekend. It can change very quickly here!”

Albert Costa: “I haven’t got a lot of experience with this car in the wet. I made a few mistakes in the first session. I improved a lot in the second one especially in terms of my lines. The main thing is to be on the front row in both sessions.”
