Formula Renault 3.5

Robin Frijns will have his first taste of an F1 car on the Moscow Raceway. He is the joint leader of the Formula Renault 3.5 series at the halfway mark of the season, and he will be given the test in the Red Bull Renault RB6 promised to the category leader during the summer. He is hoping to enjoy an unforgettable experience with his first drive in an F1 car.

Last year Robin Frijns won the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and he has made a great start to his first season in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. He scored a victory at the first meeting and has finished third on three occasions. Thanks to his consistency he is the current joint leader in the championship. “There are some very good drivers in the series,” says the Dutchman. “Some like Bird and Bianchi have a lot of experience while I’m still a debutant. I have to prove myself but things have got off to a good start.”

Although no driver has won the title in his first year in the F.R. 3.5 Series so far Frijns is among the favourites for victory. Above all, his position as joint leader has given him the opportunity to have a run in the Red Bull Renault RB6. He will provide part of the Red Bull Racing Renault Show on the Moscow Raceway after finding his marks in the car in a 25-minute session on the Friday of the meeting.

“It’s every driver’s dream to drive an F1. It’ll be my first time. I really don’t know what to expect. I know what the difference in speed is compared to the car I usually drive, but I don’t know what conditions I’m going to have to cope with, what I’m going to feel, etc. I can’t wait!”

Frijns obviously hopes that this test will lead to others in the official sessions, and he is determined to make the most of this unique first-time experience. “I’m being given a present and I really want to take full advantage of it. I want to experience what it feels like to drive an F1 car. It’s a discovery for me. I’m very grateful to Renault to have given me this opportunity.”
