Eurocup Clio

Romania’s Salvatore Arcarese stole the show in Friday’s Eurocup Clio qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps, seizing pole for both the weekend’s races, to be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The session began with Xavier Fouineau (Team LMV CL Brakes) posting the fastest time but was quickly interrupted when Thomas Fjordbach (Polar Seafood Racing) went off in spectacular fashion at Le Raidillon. While the Dane managed to clamber out of his badly damaged Nouvelle Clio Cup unassisted, he was unable to take any further part in the session.

No sooner had qualifying resumed than Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse) ran off, with the red flag coming out for a second time.

A third red flag would appear ten minutes from the end of the session when Youssef El Marnissi (Milan Competition) suffered an off-track excursion at Le Raidillon.

In the closing stages Salvatore Arcarese recorded the fastest time of the session ahead of Massimiliano Pedala and Josh Files, while the Romanian’s second fastest lap was also good enough to give him pole for Sunday’s race from Cristian Ricciarini and Eric Tremoulet.

Race one gets under way on Saturday at 17:10 and race two on Sunday at 16:20.
