Eurocup Mégane Trophy

As soon as the green flag was displayed all the drivers in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy rushed out onto the track. Bas Schothorst set provisional pole almost immediately.

Albert Costa and Kelvin Snoeks appeared to be his most dangerous rivals early on quickly joined by Tom Coronel.

Fabien Thuner was the first to improve and went quickest in 2m 05.322s. But his pole lasted only a few seconds as Albert Costa banged in a 2m 04.464s setting his second pole of the season the Eurocup Mégane Trophy from Fabien Thuner and Bas Schothorst who had a quick off.

Niccolo Nalio ended his session against the guardrail. It was a blow to the Italian who was unable to take part in the second qualifying session.

Right from the start of the second round of qualifying, Albert Costa and Fabien Thuner went to the front. But Bas Schothorst didn’t see things that way, dialled in a 2m 04.305 and reckoned he had done the hardest part of the job. Costa hit back with a lap in 2m 03.483s, the quickest-ever in the Mégane Trophy on this circuit! As in the first session he was followed by Fabien Thuner, Schothorst and Kevin Gilardoni.

Albert Costa: “I just tootled round in the first session. The weather wasn’t too bad but then the track got dirty so I pitted. My car was really great so I told my team I was going to push in the second session. And the result was a super time! Now I have to win. I’m also happy to have my team-mate, Fabien Thuner, alongside me on the front row in both races.”

Fabien Thuner: “I needed a good qualifying session to get back in the groove. I’ve proved to the team that when my car’s going well and they’ve done a good job I can give them a good result. The TDS Racing cars are just behind us so we’ll have to be very strong in the race.”
