VIP Hot Lap
Just one of the many attractions served up at World Series by Renault meetings, VIP Hot Laps are a big hit with our lucky guests. Taking a seat in a production Megane Renaultsport alongside our experienced drivers, they get to see the track from the inside.
WSR has been laying on VIP Hot Laps for many seasons now, giving an average of 150 VIPs per event the chance to savour a genuine motor-racing experience in a Megane Renaultsport.
It all begins with a short briefing, after which VIPs are taken to the pits, where they take up position in one of the five Megane Renaultsports laid on for them. The cars come straight from the factory and are equipped with a 2-litre, 265bhp engine developed by Renault Sport and fitted with road-approved Michelin tyres.
VIPs safely strapped in, the Megane Renaultsports set off, reaching 100kmh in just six seconds and nearing their top speed of 254kmh at the end of the straight. The rest of the Megane Renaultsports get a tow on the lead car and attempt pull-out manoeuvres before braking. The first right-hander shows the ability of the Megane Renaultsport to charge through turns, its axles comfortably coping with the sudden change in direction.
On turn two, our driver Julien Piguet pulls out and overtakes his colleagues under braking. During their lap of the Hungaroring, the five drivers – all of them winners at the wheel of the Formula Renault 2.0 – give it all they’ve got, climbing over the kerbs, using all the torque and power of the Renault Sport engine and braking at the limit.
Ensconced in their cars, our guests discover the most important parts of the circuit, the key braking points and best spots for overtaking, while their drivers give a running commentary on the track and the performance of the cars.
“We’re trying to give people the inside view on racing,” said Julien Piguet. “It’s another way of seeing the track and understanding what goes on during a race. Our VIPs get to see the problems tracks pose and how drivers react to certain situations. The braking takes their breath away and they get a lot of enjoyment out of these demo drives, which last just a few minutes.”
