Pic all the way

Starting from pole at Brno, Tech 1 Racing’s Arthur Pic claimed his second win of the season, leading the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 race from start to finish. The Frenchman led the Czech driver, Krenek Motorsport’s Adam Kout, who finished on the podium for the first time this season. Interwetten’s Luciano Bacheta finished third to make up a few points on Korainen Bros Motorsport’s Kevin Korjus, who finished fourth following a fine fight.

On Saturday morning, Arthur Pic once again proved his class in qualifying when he claimed his fourth and fifth pole position of the season. At the end of a madcap session interspersed with several yellow flags, the Frenchman led Korainen Bros Motorsport’s Miki Wekstrom. However, Weckstrom had been moved down the start grid four places due to a penalty received at Spa. It was therefore Czech driver Adam Kout who shared the front row with Pic, with Epsilon Euskadi’s Alex Riberas and Tech 1 Racing’s Aaro Vainio making up the second row.

Pic made a perfect start from pole and immediately took control of the race, followed by Kout and Bacheta. Miki Weckstrom was hit by One Racing’s Jordan Oakes on the start line. The two drivers were forced to retire and the safety car was called out.

After two neutralization laps, the safety car went back in and Pic held onto his lead, closely followed by Kout, Bacheta, Vainio and Riberas. Starting from penultimate place, MP Motorsport’s Daniel de Jong made a remarkable start, climbing to 9th place after just four laps.

The tone of the race was rapidly set. Arthur Pic wasted no time in establishing his lead, while Adam Kout did everything he could to fend off Luciano Bacheta. Fourth, Aaro Vainio was under attack from Kevin Korjus who had worked his way up to 5th. As Pic was beginning to build up an unbeatable lead, the racing was closer than ever between Kout, Bacheta, Vainio and Korjus.

Kevin Korjus showed why he is leader of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship by passing Vainio on lap 10. The Estonian was soon hot on the heels of Bacheta, but his fight back was interrupted by the chequered flag.

Pic claimed his second win of the season. He was joined by Adam Kout, on the podium for the first time this year, and Luciano Bacheta. Having battled his way back from 10th to 4th place, Kevin Korjus retains a solid lead in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship.

Arthur Pic : “Since the start of the season I’ve been on form in qualifying, with five pole positions so far, but I haven’t had a lot of success in the races. Basically, when I finish a race, I win. I need a lot of points, so I really need to win again tomorrow.

Adam Kout: “For me and my team it's fantastic to be on the podium here in the Czech Republic. It wasn’t easy. I had to fight tooth and nail for the whole race. It’s really motivated me to try and win tomorrow.

Luciano Bacheta : “I haven’t been on the podium since Motorland Aragon. In terms of the Championship, I needed these points, and I really needed to finish in front of Kevin Korjus. It’s an exciting circuit, but it’s really difficult to overtake here. I was faster than Adam, but I couldn’t get past him.”
