Spa-Franorchamps

The World Series by Renault, now in its eighth season, is back in Belgium for the eighth time and the fifth at Spa-Francorchamps. In addition to providing incredible on-track action with four high-quality championships Renault also offers entertainment for all the family from the track to the Village. Xavier Laporta, the Renault Belgium WSR projects chief, gives us a round-up of this on-going popular success.

Like every year the World Series by Renault at Spa-Francorchamps is a not-to-be-missed event for the company and for the public who flock to the grandstands and the Renault Village. The 2012 event is no exception and it has generated the same enthusiasm: “After the Formula 1 Grand Prix it’s the most popular event at Spa,” says Laporta,. “It’s now firmly installed on the calendar and the fans look forward to it.”

The exciting spectacle on the track is matched by the one in the Village with the stalls and entertainment that allow the crowd to enjoy an exciting day : “This event embodies Renault values between the sporting side of the make and its family values,” states Laporta. “We want to bring people together in a family and sporting context; we want to distinguish ourselves from other motor car events where women and children don’t get what they want. This is why this big party that’s the World Series is such a popular success as everybody can enjoy themselves and have a good time for free!”

In the Renault Village the entertainment is planned to please the greatest number: “We organise activities for everybody. There’s the X-Trem Show, stunts on bikes aimed at young people, the ‘Lutin Plop’ popular in the region for the children. With the Freestyle football (picture) and acrobatics demonstrations we’re aiming at the young and no-so-young public. We also make people aware of road safety. But the show out on the track is just as rich with the F1 car, which is an undeniable asset.”

While the Spa meeting is a classic, the entertainment is renewed from year to year and is very varied: “We’re always trying to bring in new ideas,” explains Laporta. “People want to see new things so we have to fulfil their wishes. F1, the FR 3.5 Series, the ambience, the richness of the entertainment are what drives our event.”

All of this wouldn’t be possible without the backing of local partners: “We’re associated with different media who help us to promote the event and to make it financially viable. The written press, TV, internet sites are all with us. In return they can invite their collaborators to the circuit. Above all they want to be associated with us as they really like the concept of the World Series by Renault.”

The World Series by Renault is a real susccess in Belgium with a big crowd despite the rain that sometimes falls on the circuit. Its eighth in Belgium visit certainly won’t be the last!
