Formula Renault 2.0

Group B was the first out this morning. Stoffel Vandoorne, Melville McKee and Nyck de Vries immediately opened up a gap over their rivals. Vandoorne was the first to get under the 1m 43s barrier with a lap in 1m 42.943s.

But de Vries stole the limelight from the Belgian with a time of 1m 42.495s and topped the time sheets in Group B from Vandoorne.

In Group A, Daniil Kvyat, Alex Riberas and Pierre Gasly set the pace and the Russian went quicker than de Vries with a time of 1m 475s. But his provisional pole was under threat from Javier Tarancon, Norman Nato and Gasly. Kvyat decided to stay out and put the issue beyond doubt with a lap in 1m 42.261s, a new FR 2.0 Eurocup record on the Hungaroring.

Daniil Kvyat: “After my bad day yesterday I had to get back in the hunt and that starts with pole position. I had two great laps. I have to win, end of story.”

Nyck de Vries: “Yesterday I did only one lap in qualifying and this morning everything went off well. I put in a string of quick laps and the car was working perfectly. I already managed to qualify on the front row at Motorland Aragon early on in the season. On this track it’s very important because, as we saw yesterday, overtaking isn’t very easy.”
