Formula Renault 2.0

Columbian Oscar Andres Tunjo and Roman Mavlanov from Russia complete the Tech 1 Racing line-up in Formula Renault 2.0. The two drivers already have a season under their belts in this type of car and have joined the Toulouse-based team to win! With Paul-Loup Chatin and Matthieu Vaxivière they make up a well-balanced foursome who all have what it takes to fight at the head of the field.

After having officialised the two French drivers in their team, Simon and Sarah Abadie are pleased to announce the arrival of Oscar Andres Tunjo and Roman Mavlanov, two promising young chargers. “It’s the first time that we’re working with a Columbian and a Russian,” says Simon Abadie, the Tech 1 Racing team manager. “Our first job is to make sure they’re well integrated into the squad and this began with the winter testing we carried out. There’s a great sense of team spirit between our four drivers and everybody work’s well together. We’re now well used to dealing with drivers of several nationalities. Tech 1 Racing is an international team!”

Despite being only sixteen, Tunjo showed great potential in his first season in Formula Renault 2.0 with a podium finish in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and another in the ALPS. He’s tackling this season with high hopes. The Columbian, who was very consistent in qualifying, improved in every race and finished in the points in the Eurocup on seven occasions, a true sign of maturity.

“Oscar is the youngest driver in our team this season, but he already has a certain amount of experience finishing second in the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific Championship and in the top ten in the Eurocup and the ALPS in his first year,” underlines Simon. “It’s our job to help him jump the final hurdle so that he can fight for victory, and we’ve put everything in place to enable him to achieve this.”

Russian driver Roman Mavlanov, after his first season learning the ropes, will be another driver to watch this year. “Roman is starting his second season in single-seaters. He’s a serious guy; he discovered top-level racing in 2010 and he’s assimilated a lot in a short space of time. He’ll break through to another level in his career this year. Like our other three drivers he has the potential to be among the front-runners.”

Tech 1 Racing has set itself ambitious goals in both the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and the ALPS. “In 2010, we won the teams’ title in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, and we did the double in the ALPS in 2011 with the drivers’ and teams’ titles. So in 2012 we’re aiming for all the titles, in particular the drivers’ crown in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, which we haven’t won yet. Both championships have attracted very high-quality fields so the outcome is far from certain. The Formula Renault 2.0 is the ideal car in which to learn. I expect total commitment from our team and drivers. We’ve put everything together to have a great season, something we were able to assess this winter.”
