My first driving experience
I was 15 years old. I drove my dad’s car in our driveway without telling him. The problem was I noticed that our neighbour had heard the engine. So I pushed it back, at which point I hit the gate!
My first race
The Spa 25 Hours Fun Cup, in 2000. I had never touched a racing car before then.
My favourite circuit
The Nürburgring. I won there in 2008 in the Eurocup Megane Trophy, and I wasn’t far off winning last year. It’s my lucky circuit.
My favourite driver
Kurt Mollekens. He was one of my brother’s friends. I met him when he was karting, and I’ve followed him throughout his whole career. Kurt has amazing talent. He was my idol, as he knows, and we swore that we’d do a race together one day – maybe the Spa 24 Hours.
My favourite film
The Usual Suspects. The final scene, with the falling mug, is cult.
My favourite singer/band
Angus & Julia Stone, as they’re popular at the moment. And Coldplay.
The job I’d have liked if I hadn’t taken up driving
I’m not a professional driver; I have a transport company. So I’d like to have been a professional driver. I’d like to have started karting at the age of eight and be driving in the DTM today, having competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours several times with Tom Kristensen!
My favourite holiday destination
Corsica. At least, I hope it will be, as I’m going there for the first time in just a few weeks!
What I think of myself when I see myself on TV
I hate my voice. If I accidently come across a report about me, I change channel immediately. Hearing myself is torture.
