Action packed weekend at Silverstone

The fifth round of the Formula Renault Eurocup 2.0 took place at the famous Silverstone track in England in what would be an exciting weekend of racing.

Pieter Schothorst went into this weekend’s racing in a buoyant mood after finishing 2nd in the FR Northern European Cup last week in front of a home crowd in Zandvoort, Netherlands, which was his first ever podium finish in Formula Renault.
The team faced difficulties with the set-up of the car, which meant that the car struggled for pace in qualifying on one of the world’s fastest tracks. The McGregor driver would have to start from 21st position on the grid in both races.

Pieter went out onto the track Saturday afternoon for the 1st race determined to emulate the form he showed last weekend. His race got off to an excellent start and after overtaking a number of drivers he found himself in 15th place. The race however was to come to an abrupt end for Pieter when he clashed with another driver leaving him unable to continue after just 3 laps.
In front of an enthusiastic Silverstone crowd Pieter made a good start to the 2nd race, however as he approached the end of the first lap Pieter slightly misjudged a corner due to the damp conditions and went off the track. This meant that he had to re-join the race in last place. Determined to rectify this mistake Pieter energetically battled his way round the track, engaging in a number of close battles resulting in lots of overtaking. This saw Pieter cross the chequered flag in 23rd place in what was an enjoyable race for spectators and drivers alike.

“I drove a fun race with lots of fights and overtaking. I learned a lot from this race and really enjoyed racing on this track with this car. Next up is Paul-Ricard, I will push even more for some points now!”
With the penultimate race of the series set to take place in 4 weeks’ time Pieter and his R-Ace team are more determined ever to make a late push up the drivers’ standings.
