Formula two went to Austria

Formula two went to Austria for round’s 11 and 12 of the series at the Red Bull Ring. After joining the Formula two series earlier in the week Luciano Bacheta would be taking part in his first race of the series at the Austrian Circuit. Surrounded by spectacular hillside, with tight corners the track was expected to provide a stern test of the driver’s abilities and with this being his first ever outing at the circuit a tough weekend was expected for Luchi.

However, his weekend got off to an impressive start after a strong first qualifying session on Saturday morning. The British driver qualified in 7th place and with less then a second between him and pole position a promising weekend for Luchi and his team looked to be on the cards.

Seeking to quickly establish himself as one of the strongest competitors in the series, Luciano showed no sign of nerves as he took to the track for his first competitive race of the series. After making a good start Luchi was able to display the same steely determination and raw ability that took him to second in last years Formula Renault Eurocup. In what was a closely fought race Luciano passed the chequered flag in 7th place, securing his first points in what was a very impressive start to the series for the driver.

After experiencing some difficulties in the 2nd qualifying session he would start the race in 15th place. The sunny and warm weather made for perfect racing conditions and after a strong start to race 2 Luciano looked like he was going to continue the same point scoring form he had shown previously. Engaging in a number of closely fought battles and impressively overtaking another driver at turn two of the 13th lap, he found himself in 9th place. Luciano eventually finished the race in 10th place, meaning he again scored points in his first weekend of Formula 2.

After being able to immediately establish himself amongst the strongest drivers in the series there are many positives to draw confidence from for Luciano after this weekends racing. The driver will be looking to build upon his excellent start to his Formula 2 career in the next round in Monza at the end of September.
