Eurocup Mégane Trophy

As usual Stefano Comini (Oregan Team) and Bas Schothorst (TDS Racing) continued their battle for pole in the Mégane Trophy. The Swiss again dominated his rivals, and with a lap in 1m 51.904s he set his eleventh pole of the season. Behind these two, the scrap for third was intense.

Oscar Nogues (Oregon Team) held it early on but the Spaniard was soon knocked out of the top three by Alvaro Barba (Equipe Verschuur) and then overtaken by Grégory Guilvert (Team Lompech Sport). But Michele Faccin (Boutsen Energy Racing) finally bagged third as the flag fell. A second covered the first ten.

Comini dashed his rivals’ hopes by making it a round dozen in fourteen sessions when the cars came out for the second round of qualifying. He set the pace straight away and improved his time to 1m 51.240s quicker than his first pole position of the weekend.

Behind him Bas Schothorst was the best of the rest followed by David Dermont in third.

Stefano Comini: “I didn’t set pole on the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit so I’m happy to be back at the front. The first session was a bit complicated as I had difficulty finding a clear lap. Barcelona is the only circuit in the World Series by Renault on which I haven’t won. I’ll have to tick that box today!”
