Eurocup Mégane Trophy
Oregon Team driver Mirko Bortolotti enjoyed a fine Eurocup Megane Trophy debut on Saturday, claiming pole position in the morning’s qualifying session ahead of team-mate and compatriot Kevin Gilardoni, with Dutchman Kelvin Snoeks completing a one-two-three for the Italian stable.
The whole Megane Trophy field went for slicks in a session that Mirko Bortolotti dominated virtually from start to finish. Setting the pace early on, the Italian gradually upped his performance levels, posting a fastest lap that Kevin Gilardoni was unable to improve on in his late but unsuccessful charge for pole.
“This is only my first race in the Eurocup Megane Trophy and I couldn’t have made a better start,” said Mirko Bortolotti. “I’ll be going for the win this afternoon. We’ve got a good set-up for long runs, and while I don’t have as much experience as some of my rivals, I hope to put in a good performance.”
The season’s opening Eurocup Megane Trophy race gets under way at 16:15.
