Formula Renault 3.5

Yesterday's poleman and race winner, Stoffel Vandoorne (Fortec Motorsports), was fastest again in qualifying at Moscow Raceway today. The Belgian will start the second race of the weekend on pole, followed by Will Stevens (P1 by Strakka Racing), Kevin Magnussen (DAMS) and Nico Müller (International Draco Racing).

There were menacing skies overhead as the field took to the track for qualifying at Moscow Raceway this morning. In the first half of the session, the highlight was the duel between championship leaders Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne. Nigel Melker (Tech 1 Racing) also joined the fray and challenged the pair before the usual mid-session change of tyres.

The action picked up again in the last ten minutes. Arthur Pic (AV Formula) stopped on track and interrupted the session five minutes from the end. The final sprint, meanwhile, was dominated by Stoffel Vandoorne, who took pole position with a flying lap of 1:20.025. The session was halted definitively after Oliver Webb (Fortec Motorsports) went off and prompted another red flag.

"It's been a good start to the day. The qualifying session after a race victory is always difficult. You always feel a bit of pressure, because you want to do the same again," said Stoffel Vandoorne. "We managed to get a few extra tenths out of the car. If I can get away to a good start, things should be OK from there."

The second Formula Renault 3.5 Series race of the weekend at Moscow Raceway starts at 14:00, local time.
